Maui’s next generation of leaders ‘Level Up’ at Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui, Teen Leadership Conference

Youth from across Hawaiʻi came together at The Westin Maui Resort & Spa for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui’s second annual Level Up Teen Leadership Conference, a day dedicated to inspiring teens to embrace their stories, recognize their strengths, and build the confidence to create positive change.
Guided by this year’s theme, “Own Your Story – Lead with Pride,” the conference brought together youth ages 13 to18 for an inspiring day focused on leadership development, meaningful connections, self-discovery, and hands-on learning experiences designed to empower young people to embrace their voices and lead with confidence.

The conference featured a series of interactive breakout sessions designed to engage youth in meaningful conversations about personal and community leadership. Participants explored the importance of connecting with culture and ʻāina, while reflecting on their own identity, purpose, and vision for the future.
In a standout session, former NFL player Joseph Dickson Jr. led a dynamic movement workshop, sharing real-life lessons to help students build resilience, discipline, and self-assurance.
Through these hands-on experiences, youth discovered their unique strengths and embraced their individual stories. Throughout the event, a unified message emerged: true leadership begins with knowing who you are, understanding where you come from, and having the courage to use your voice to make a difference.
“This conference gives teens the opportunity to recognize the power of their own stories and their voices,” said Lexa Inkley, Teen Program Coordinator for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui. “Watching them step outside of their comfort zones, connect with other young leaders, and confidently share their ideas is truly inspiring.”
Beyond the workshops, the event brought together more than 85 young people from across Maui, Molokaʻi, Oʻahu, and Kauaʻi. This cross-island gathering created a powerful space for teens to share diverse experiences, forge new friendships, and inspire one another to realize their leadership potential.
Ultimately, attendees left equipped with new ideas and actionable tools to carry into their schools and neighborhoods. The “Level Up” Teen Leadership Conference reflects the Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui’s ongoing commitment to empowering Hawaiʻi youth with the skills and confidence to become bold, engaged advocates for their generation.
