Makawao-area residents and visitors should expect limited access to streets and driveways along Makawao Avenue on Saturday, while Maui Kupono Builders LLC continues road restoration work in coordination with Maui County’s Department of Public Works.

Work will extend from Makani Road to the Maha Road intersection, beginning at 6 a.m. and scheduled to finish by Saturday evening, according to Vili Tolutaʻu, project manager for Maui Kupono Builders LLC.

Residents near Makani Road, Pakani Place and Mahola Street should plan for access restrictions throughout the day. Pakani Place residents, in particular, are urged to plan ahead because access will be very limited.

Traffic arrangements include:

  • Access to Eddie Tam will be routed through Makani Road.
  • Residents are asked to use Olinda Road to reach Makawao town or Hanamu Road to reach Haleakalā Highway.
  • Drivers should follow all posted traffic signs and detours.
