While Hawaiʻi families continue to face housing and financial pressures, teammates at American Savings Bank are directing their charitable contributions toward five local nonprofits working to strengthen financial and economic stability. With a 94% employee participation rate and a combined total contribution of $271,000, ASB is turning its collective generosity into community impact across the state.
As part of its annual Kahiau Giving Campaign, ASB’s teammate-led Community Council selected Catholic Charities Hawaiʻi, Child & Family Service, Hawaiian Community Assets, Kupu, and Partners in Development Foundation as this year’s beneficiaries.
“Every year, our Kahiau Giving Campaign reflects our teammates’ generosity, and I am proud that our contributions help multiply the impact of our Kahiau partners who are making a meaningful difference throughout Hawaii,” said Ann Teranishi, president and CEO at American Savings Bank. “Together, our collective efforts get local families one step closer to homeownership, empower students to pursue higher education, and provide residents improved access to resources that can open new doors.”
In Hawaiian, Kahiau means “to give from the heart without expecting anything in return.” Since the program’s inception in 2011, ASB’s Kahiau Giving Campaign has contributed more than $4.3 million to local nonprofits, reflecting ASB teammates’ longstanding commitment to supporting Hawaii’s communities.

Expanding Support for Affordable Housing
This year, ASB’s Community Council selected Hawaiian Community Assets (HCA) as its newest Kahiau partner. Over the years, ASB, with support from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines’ Member Impact Fund, has provided HCA with more than $1 million in grants supporting affordable housing and financial education initiatives. ASB also supported the opening of HCA’s Maui office and Ua Hale A’ela, a program that helps local families navigate the path of homeownership.
“Access to affordable housing remains one of the most pressing challenges facing Hawaii’s families,” said Chelsie Evans Enos, CEO at Hawaiian Community Assets. “The Kahiau program helps organizations like ours continue working toward solutions that strengthen housing stability and create opportunities for local families. We’re grateful to American Savings Bank and its teammates for supporting this important work.”
ASB celebrated its 2026 Kahiau partners during a reception at its Campus on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
