*** A second home fire was reported on Maui today, at 8:25 a.m. on Aholo Road in Lahaina. Details are now posted at the following direct LINK.
Three people were displaced by an early morning home fire in Wailuku Heights today, according to Maui fire officials.
The fire was reported at 12:52 a.m. on Palani Street at a 1,200 square-foot single-story residence.
Fire Department crews reported seeing flames coming from the area when they were leaving the station.
When firefighters from the Wailuku Engine company arrived on scene, they found the home fully engulfed, according to Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga. The blaze was brought under control by 2:14 a.m.
The structure was made of concrete masonry construction and was located on a side street off of South Alu Road.
FSO Mainaga said the three occupants, two males and a female, were at home at the time of the fire, and evacuated on their own.
No injuries were reported, and a fire inspector was conducting an investigation.
Total damages were estimated at $450,000, including $300,000 to the structure, and $150,000.00 in damage to its contents.
