A 20-acre brush fire that was first reported on Saturday morning near Kahului Airport, was called extinguished at 9:10 p.m. on Monday.

The fire along Stable Road was fully contained several hours earlier at around 4:30 p.m., as a single fire unit remained on scene to put out the remaining hot spots.

A single person was evacuated from one home during the initial firefighting operations, and some roof damage was reported due to flying embers on Saturday.

The cause of the fire was undetermined at last report.

FSO Mainaga said a heavy fuel load was contributing to the fire, and swamp conditions were making it difficult for heavy machinery to traverse. Photo courtesy, Maui Fire Department.
