Walmart Donates $115,000 Refrigerated Truck to Maui Food Bank

The Walmart Foundation today donated a $115,000 refrigerated food truck to the Maui Food Bank in Wailuku as part of the Feeding America campaign.

The vehicle will be used to ensure the transport of fresh fruit, vegetables, and other nutritious foods to benefit people on Maui suffering from hunger.

The new vehicle is among 20 refrigerated food trucks and 15 mobile pantries valued at $4 million that the Walmart Foundation donated to 33 Feeding America food banks nationwide.

The donation was part of Walmart’s $19 million holiday giving campaign last December to help US nonprofits dedicated to fighting hunger and providing other basic needs.

Research shows that 1 in 6 people in America live in households without adequate food on the table; and more than 46 million people live in poverty, the highest in 52 years, according to authorities.

The Maui Food Bank serves more than 10,000 people a month who are in need of food. The new refrigerated truck will enable the Maui Food Bank to distribute more than 1.5 million pounds of food to the hungry in 2012.
