FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR KAUAI EXTENDED TO 6:45 PM 7/23/09

The National Weather Service has extended the Flash Flood Warning for the island of Kauai until 6:45 tonight.  At 3:27 p.m., radar showed that the rainfall over Kauai was decreasing and moving offshore.  However, the stream gage on the Hanalei River still showed that high water and runoff may continue for the next few hours.

Other locations in the warning include but are not limited to Kapaa, Haena, Wainiha, Na Pali State Park, Moloaa, Kalalau Valley, Princeville, Kokee State Park, Kilauea, and Anahola.

The warning may be extended beyond 6:45 p.m. if Flash Flooding persists.

KAUAI UNDER FLASH FLOOD WARNING UNTIL 3:45 P.M. 7/23/09

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for the Island of Kauai until 3:45 Thursday, July 23, 2009.

At 12:43 p.m., rain gages and radar showed heavy rain falling at 4 inches per hour over windward Kauai.  The area of heavy rain was nearly stationary.

Police reported the bridge at Hanalei was closed due to high water.

Other locations in the warning include but are not limited to Kapaa, Haena, Wainiha, Na Pali State Park, Moloaa, Kalalau Valley, Princeville, Kokee State Park, Kilauea, Kapaa and Anahola.

Precautionary Measures and Actions:

A flash flood warning means flash flooding is imminent or occurring in streams, roads and low lying areas.  Move to higher ground. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot.  Turn around, don’t drown.

This warning may be extended beyond 3:45 p.m. if flash flooding persists.
