Medics Respond to Near Drowning in Kihei

A 6-year-old Maui boy was transported in critical, but improving condition after being found floating in the pool of a South Maui condominium.

The incident was reported at 12:46 p.m. at the Maui Gardens Condominiums, located at 1450 South Kihei Road.

Upon arrival at 12:51 p.m., crews from Medic 3 in Kihei found the patient unresponsive, with CPR being performed by a bystander, according to Maui County Paramedics Association spokesperson Ryan Joslin.

Paramedics assumed care of the patient and initialized advanced cardiac life support measures on scene, and throughout the patients transport, in an attempt to stabilize the boy, said Joslin.

The boy was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center where he was met by an awaiting trauma team in the Emergency Department.

Paramedics were assisted by the Maui Fire Department’s Engine 6 from Kihei, and multiple police units.
