Maui’s north shore saw some early summer action this weekend after a long wait at popular windsurf and kite surf spots Ho’okipa and Kanaha beach parks.

Waves were bigger on Friday, June 2 at about mast-high, giving hungry windsurfers decent sets to shred in to through steady winds at Ho’okipa’s point.

Saturday brought smaller waves and stronger winds at around 25 knots to Kanaha, where kite surfers swarmed the waters off of Kanaha’s “Pro Beach” and  “Naish Beach,” gracefully spinning into high aerials all afternoon.

Several pro surfers have already left the island for their summer vacations in pursuit of bigger waves, but those who rest here look forward to these little spurts of sun and swells.

For windsurfers and kite surfers, anyway, the wind should suffice in keeping the summer days at sea interesting.
