The accident was reported at 5:38 a.m. on Sunday, June 3, along the highway just south of Kakio Road in the Hāna district near Hāmoa.

According to police reports, Krause was driving a 1992 Toyota pickup truck south-bound towards Kaupo, when the vehicle traveled right off the shoulder of the roadway, collided with a utility pole, and overturned before coming to rest.

A 20-year-old male passenger, also of Hāna, was transported via Medevac to the Maui Memorial Medical Center where he was treated and released for head and leg injuries, authorities said.
