A remake of the 1980 movie classic, “The Blue Lagoon,” which was filmed partially on Maui, is scheduled to air on June 16th on the Lifetime Network.

The film crew visited various Maui locations earlier this year, with filming conducted in Makena, Paia and Twin Falls.

More than 30 Maui residents were hired to work as crew members. Local crew members were employed for various tasks including electrical, set safety and stunt coordination.

County officials say that during filming, actors and crew members stayed at local hotels, contributing to the local economy by staying in South Maui at accommodations for an estimated 450 room nights.

The remake is a Lifetime Movie of the Week starring Australian actors Brenton Thwaites and Indiana Evans.
