Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort & Spa, a Hyatt brand resort set to open in spring 2013, has named Michael Stephens as general manager.
Prior to his new assignment on Maui, Stephens was the general manager of Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale, Arizona. Stephens has had a 26-year career with the Hyatt going back to 1986.
He has since held various operations positions throughout the country – general manager at the Hyatt Regency Lexington (Kentucky) and in 2004, he moved to Grand Hyatt DFW as general manager.
Throughout his career, Stephens has served as a community leader in the cities he has worked and lived in. While in Scottsdale, Stephens served on the Executive Committee, Board of Directors and Partner Council for the Scottsdale Convention and Visitors Bureau; the Board for Hospitality and Management Studies at Northern Arizona University; and the Arizona State University Hotel & Resort Leadership & Management Board.
In 2009, Stephens received the “General Manager of the Year” award by the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International, Arizona chapter; and Where magazine’s Silver Plum award naming Stephens “General Manager of the Year.” In 2005 and 2009, Stephens was nominated for Hyatt’s prestigious “General Manager of the Year” award.
This week the Maui Andaz also announced the appointment of Anita Rahman to sales and marketing director at the Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort & Spa as well.
