A plan to change the billing system at the Maui Department of Water Supply from bimonthly to monthly statements has been delayed indefinitely.

DWS officials say the Honolulu Board of Water Supply, which maintains the billing system for both Maui and Kauai counties, has determined the timing for such a change is not advantageous.

Customers were first notified of the planned change in a brochure that was sent out with the September 2011 bills.

While the timing of the water/sewer bills will not change, customers will see some added services in September 2012 that are made possible through the new computer billing system, including the option to allow multiple meters on a single bill.

In addition, shorter account numbers will be assigned to all services.

Another important change is the “Payment Must Reach Us By” date which is 30 days after the billing date. To avoid a late payment charge, customers must pay the amount due by the  date stated in order to avoid late charges.

The DWS will implement a late fee on any past due account balance for water/sewer charge amounts.  A 1% per month fee will be assessed on the unpaid balance in excess of 30 days.  The DWS expects to implement late fees later this year or in early 2013.

Questions regarding the changes can be directed to the DWS Customer Service line at 270-7730 during normal working hours.
