Fire Burns Brush Near Ceramic Tile in Kahului

Firefighters on Maui responded to a small brush fire across the street from the Queen Ka’ahumanu Shopping Center today.

The fire was reported at 2:01 p.m. on Sunday, June 24, 2012, in an area of from on the East side of the Ceramic Tile Plus property along Ka’ahumanu Avenue.

The fire burned a 25-foot by 50-foot area of brush.  Fire officials say only brush was burned, and no monetary losses were reported.

Crews responding to the scene included firefighters from Engine 1 out of Wailuku; Rescue 10 from Kahului; and Tanker 10 from Kahului.

The fire forced the brief closure of the right hand turn lane on Kahului Beach Road onto Ka’ahumanu Avenue.

The fire was called under control at 2:10 p.m., and extinguished at 2:36 p.m.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was undetermined.
