Maiava Stops Golden With Strikes in 2nd Round

Maui’s Ilima Maiava evened his professional record to 2-2 Saturday by stopping Wesley Golden of Lakewood, Wash., in the second round via strikes.
Maiava’s victory capped the main event on the 13-fight card of Unorthodox Idustries Championship 8, before a sold-out crowd at Lahaina Civic Center.
The referee called a halt to Maiava’s match at 2 minutes, 13 seconds, making it officially a technical knockout and snapping his two-fight losing skid. The 6-foot, 2 inch, 202-pound light heavyweight is the older brother of football players Kai and Kaluka Maiava.
The loss dropped Golden to 4-3.
In the co-main event, Kurrent Cockett won a unanimous decision over Ed Nawalu. Cockett raised his record to 5-2 and snapped a two-fight loss.
Other winners on Saturday’s main card were Kapono “Bone” Pali, by unanimous decision over Robert Midel; Justin Cook submitted Jason Dulao in the first round with a triangle choke; Molokai’s Keoni Farm decisioned Boom Baybayan; and, Mone Mamao defeated Phil Acang in the second round via rear-naked choke.
