Road Reminders: Maui County Fair Parade

Motorists are reminded that partial road closures go into effect this afternoon (Thursday, October 01, 2009)  in Kahului to accommodate the Maui County Fair Parade Route.  Beginning at 4:15 p.m., portions of Kaahumanu and Kanaloa Avenues will be closed.  Motorists should plan accordingly.  It is estimated that there will be approximately 3,000 parade participants including floats, automobiles, marching bands and community organizations.

The parade route is unchanged from the 2007 & 2008 events.  Parade participants will assemble in the open field adjacent to Wahine Pio Drive on the Maui Community College campus.   At the conclusion of the parade, walking participants will turn left into the War Memorial Football Stadium parking lot.  Vehicles participating in the parade will continue on Kanaloa Avenue to the entrance to Keopuolani Park (Park Drive), where they will regroup within the park or disperse the area.

ROAD CLOSURES:

The following closures will commence on 10/01/09 at 4:15 p.m.

1.                  The Wailuku bound lanes of Kaahumanu Avenue, from the intersection

of Kahului Beach Road to Kanaloa Avenue.

2.                  The Paia bound lanes of Kaahumanu Avenue, from the intersection of

South Papa Avenue to Wakea Avenue.

3.                  All lanes of Kanaloa Avenue, from the intersection of Kaahumanu

Avenue to Park Drive (Keopuolani Park).

Maui Bus to Be Re-Routed During County Fair Parade:

Due to the partial closure of Kaahumanu Avenue on Thursday, October 1, 2009 to accommodate the County Fair Parade, Maui Bus service will be re-routing and eliminating specific stops, the County of Maui Department of Transportation announced.

The changes are as follows:

Lahaina Islander (Lahaina Bound)

● Eliminating the 4:40 p.m. and 5:40 p.m. Wells Street stop from Queen Kaahumanu Center heading to Lahaina.

Kahului Loop Route #5

● Eliminating the 2:32 p.m., 3:32 p.m., 4:32 p.m. and 5:32 p.m.

Harbor Lights stop from Queen Kaahumanu Center.  Eliminating the 4:35 p.m. and 5:35 p.m. Roselani Place stop.

Kahului Reverse Loop Route #6

● Eliminating the 2:53 p.m., 3:53 p.m., 4:53 p.m. and 5:53 p.m.

Harbor Lights stop going to Queen Kaahumanu Center.  Eliminating the

4:49 p.m. and 5:49 p.m. Roselani Place stop.

Wailuku Loop Route #1

● Eliminating the 4:40 p.m. and 5:40 p.m. Maui Memorial Medical Center and Maui Lani Parkway stops.  Eliminating the 4:23 p.m., 5:23 p.m. and 6:23 p.m. Kanaloa Avenue stops.

Wailuku Reverse Loop Route #2

● Eliminating the 4:03 p.m., 5:03 p.m. and 6:03 p.m. Kanaloa Avenue stops.

The remaining bus routes will operate as normal with some deviation in street routing, but will continue to serve all other existing bus stops.  The public is advised to expect delays in pick-up times, due to the increased traffic during the parade.

Also, the Wailuku-Kapalua (Stadium) Commuter parking, normally allowed at the War Memorial Stadium parking lot will be relocated to the Kahului Boat Ramp during the County Fair from Wednesday, September 30th through Sunday, October 4th.
