Brush Fire Burns Vacant Lot in Kihei

A two acre brush fire in South Maui came within 50 feet of the nearest residence before being brought under control on Thursday afternoon, fire officials said.

The fire was first reported at 3:35 p.m. on Thursday, September 27, 2012, in a vacant lot at the end of Waiono Place, between Namauu Place and Waiapo Street in Kihei, said Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.

He said the fire was called under control at 4:30 p.m., and extinguished at 5:30 p.m.

Crews responding to the scene included Engine 6, Engine 14, Tanker 14, Tanker 10, Engine 10, and Battalion Chief 1 .

The cause of the fire was undetermined.  There was no property damaged and no injuries were reported.
