A motorcyclist involved in a traffic accident last week on the Mokulele Highway died over the weekend at Maui Memorial Medical Center.

The man was identified as 21-year-old Thomas J. Grad of Kihei.  Grad was traveling south on the Mokulele Highway at around 10:38 p.m. on Wednesday October 21, 2009 when he collided into the rear of a Honda Civic traveling in the same direction.

The Honda motorcycle then lost control and slid on the roadway.  The Honda Civic lost control, and went onto the grass median where it overturned and came to rest on it’s wheels.

Authorities say speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash.  The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and the operator of the sedan was wearing a seatbelt.
