Small Waiehu Brush Fire, Cause Undetermined

A small brush fire in Waiehu burned an estimated 50 by 75 foot area before being brought under control on Saturday afternoon, November 24, 2012.

The incident was reported at 2:45 p.m. in an area of brush between the Waiehu Golf Course and the Waiehu Kou subdivision.

Wailuku and Kahului firefighters from Engine 1, Tanker 10 and Engine 10 were able to contain the fire by 3:01 p..m., and extinguish the fire by 3:19 p.m.

Crews accessed the are from Nawaieha Place in the Waiehu Kou subdivision.

Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga said winds were calm to light, and the blaze came within about 150 feet of the nearest structure.  He said structures were not in immediate danger.

No monetary damages were reported and there were no injuries.  The cause of the fire was undetermined.
