KAHULUI MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING SHOOTING DEATH OF SON
A Kahului man was arrested after allegedly shooting to death his son at their Kahului home on Tuesday night. 45-year-old Joe D. Antonio was arrested for investigation of second degree murder after turning himself in to authorities shortly after the incident. The Maui News reports the man has been an employee with the publication for 18-years where he works as a pressman. Maui Police positively identified the victim as the man’s 19-year-old son, Jose Antonio Jr., who was found on the ground fronting the entrance to the home’s rear cottage.
A preliminary autopsy indicates the victim died of multiple gunshot wounds. Witnesses tell authorities the incident stemmed from an argument between the two men, who reside in the same home, located at 496 South Kamehameha Avenue. A .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun belonging to the suspect was located and recovered from the scene. Authorities say the weapon is registered to the father.
The incident remains under investigation.
