MPD Promotes Rickard to Rank of Captain

A 22-year veteran of the Maui Police Department was promoted this week to the rank of Captain.  Dean Rickard, earned the 2007 County of Maui Team of the Year award while serving in his most recent pot as Commander of the Plans & Training Section.  Rickard takes on his new post as Captain and District Commander of the Molokai Patrol District on December 1st.

Capt. Rickard began his career with the Maui Police Department on November 2, 1987.  As a Police Officer, he was assigned to the Lahaina Patrol District and Vice Division’s Narcotics Section.  His assignments as a Sergeant was in the Communications Section’s Receiving Desk, Wailuku Patrol District and the Criminal Intelligence Unit.  He was also assigned as a detective in the Criminal Investigation Division.

Captain Rickard graduated from Lahainaluna High School in 1982 and he later attended and graduated from Chadron State College in Nebraska in 1987.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice.

He’s married to wife Stephanie, and together they have three children, daughter Tekiri (20) a nursing student at the University of Hawaii-Hilo, son Teanu (16) and daughter Teani (8).
