Maui High Teen Wins MacBook Pro in Family Finale Event
By Wendy Osher
Maui High School freshman Giel Tolentino was awarded a MacBook Pro at the weekend Family Sundays finale event at the Maui Mall.
The Maui High School student was randomly drawn from a selection of over 50 nominated students in grades kindergarten through 12th grade, all who were previously recognized onstage at past Family Sundays events in 2012 for excellence in education.
Tolentino was nominated last school year by Maui Waena Intermediate School media and robotics advisor Jennifer Suzuki. While attending Maui Waena, Tolentino served as president for the media and robotics club.
In addition to calling her “one of the most amazing young ladies I have ever met,” Suzuki said Tolentino was organized and had extraordinary leadership potential.
To close the Family Sundays finale event, Kahului resident Kevin Pachecco took home the $1,000 Super Shopper grand prize pack as part of Maui Mall’s Super Shopper Stamp Card Promotion.
Contents in the grand prize pack included a “staycation” and brunch buffet at the Ka`anapali Beach Hotel, courtesy of Pacific Media Group’s 99.9 KISS FM, and gift cards from Maui Mall merchants.
The Maui Mall is located in Central Maui near Kahului Harbor. The location features Maui’s largest cinema, community events and family entertainment with over 35 stores, restaurants and service establishments.
