Seabury Hall Beats University in OT, Kailua Next

Seabury Hall’s Kaleb Palmer and Cameron King combined for 34 points to lift the third-seeded Spartans to a 59-56 overtime win over University High in Thursday’s quarterfinals of the State Boys Division II Basketball Tournament.

Seabury Hall will face second-seeded Kailua on Friday in the second of two Division II semifinal games at Kaimuki Gym, starting at 7 p.m. ESPN 550AM Radio will broadcast the game with Barry Helle and Fred Guzman calling the action.

Top-seeded Saint Francis will play fourth-seeded Hawaii Prep in Friday’s first semifinal at 5 p.m. All four seeded teams advanced with victories in Thursday’s quarterfinals.

Trailing 30-22 at halftime, the Maui Interscholastic League champions improved to 14-1 by chipping away at the Junior Rainbows’ first-half lead at Kalani Gym. Seabury forced the game into overtime by overcoming a seven-point deficit through three quarters. The game ended in a 50-50 deadlock at regulation as a result of the Spartans’ 19-12 advantage in the fourth period.

Palmer had a team-high 19 points and King added 15, including a pair of 3-pointers. Seabury finished 12 of 17 at the free-throw line compared to University’s 15 of 25.

Anthony Canencia dropped a game-high 28 points for University. He was 10 of 13 from the charity stripe. Teammate Ryan Kaleikini added 13 points.
