Among the units dispatched to the scene were engine crews from Lahaina, Napili, and Wailuku, along with Tanker 10 from Kahului.  A tanker from West Maui Land also assisted with the fire fighting operation, authorities said.

The fire was called contained at 5:49 p.m., and was extinguished at 7:30 p.m., officials said.

According to Chief Mainaga, a vehicle was apparently set on fire which in turn started the brush fire.
