The Maui High School science bowl team won the state title over the weekend, earning them a return spot in the national competition to be held in April in Washington, DC.

Because the demonstration was an educational event, no one was cited; however, organizers say that out of the 78 vehicles checked over a four hour period, only 30 had properly covered their loads, and 48 vehicles were found to be in violation.

A compressor that runs the refrigeration for the chillers at Times Supermarket in Kīhei blew, sending a white vapor cloud into the store shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29.
