IT Manager Guy Aguirre has been named Maui Economic Opportunity Employee of the Month of August for always having a solution and a smile and working to improve system security and access for persons with disabilities.

The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa’s College of Social Sciences has received a $470,000 gift from Fujitsu Ltd./Japan-America Institute of Management Science. The donation, administered by the UH Foundation, will support the college’s “robust environment and continued engagement in the global community,” according to an announcement.

The HVO issued as status update saying there have been over 70 earthquakes so far in this swarm, with 32 events greater than magnitude 2 and two events greater than magnitude 4. The largest earthquake has been a magnitude-4.3 event that occurred Saturday at 12:05 p.m. HST, at a depth of 5.8 km (3.6 mi) below sea level and 4.8 km (3.0 mi) below the volcano’s summit.

In its 13th annual Share the Love event, Subaru Hawaiʻi will donate $350 to a local nonprofit for every Subaru purchased in Hawaiʻi. The promotion began Nov. 1 and runs through Dec. 31.

Twelve graduates from Basic Corrections Recruit Class completed training and will begin their careers as corrections officers in facilities across Hawaiʻi, including one graduate who has been assigned to the Maui Community Correctional Center in Wailuku. Currently, there are nearly 370 vacant ACO positions of the estimated 1,500 authorized ACO positions.  

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation is inviting youth ages 11 to 24 on all islands to apply to serve on the inaugural Hawaiʻi Youth Transportation Council. The deadline to apply is Nov. 25.

The state Department of Transportation will be conducting road work this week that will result in lane closures at various locations. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice. All projects are weather permitting. 

On Friday, the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation opened its second electric vehicle charging station in the state funded by the federal National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program. The $3.5 million station opened at 8 a.m. at Aloha Tower Marketplace on O‘ahu.
