East Maui water rights will be one of the issues up for discussion at tomorrow’s Board of Land and Natural Resources meeting, scheduled to start at 9 a.m. at the Kalanimoku Building in Honolulu.

Drug Indictments Net 22 Arrests Today in Honolulu and California

Twenty-two individuals were arrested today on Oʻahu and in California, after being named in six indictments returned by a federal grand jury.

Molokaʻi’s ʻUalapuʻe Water Tests Positive for E. Coli

The Maui Department of Water Supply detected E. coli bacteria in the ʻUalapuʻe Shaft on Molokaʻi. E. coli was detected on Dec. 8, 2016, in a water sample collected the previous day at the ʻUalapuʻe Shaft. E. coli testing takes 18 hours to complete.

Strong Thunderstorm Moves NE from Hāna to Maliko

At 12:39 p.m., HST, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm capable of producing waterspouts and winds of 34 knots or greater. The storm was located 28 NM northeast of Maliko Boat Ramp and was moving north at 20 knots.

Accident, Boulders Result in Mid-day Delay on Honoapi’ilani

Traffic on Honoapiʻilani Hwy in the area of the Scenic Lookout is slowed in both directions due to inclement weather and a large boulder on the Lahaina-bound shoulder. Police and State Highways crews are working to remove the boulder. Motorists should expect delays and use caution while driving.

TSUNAMI WATCH CANCELLED: After 7.8 M Solomon Islands Quake

The magnitude has been downgraded from an 8.0 to a 7.8. Based on all available data from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center there is no tsunami threat to the State of Hawaiʻi. Therefore, the tsunami watch is cancelled.

There is no tsunami threat to Hawaiʻi after a 6.5 M (preliminary magnitude 6.8) earthquake reported off the coast of Northern California at 4:50 a.m. HST on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016.

Sex Offenders Charged for Failure to Register

Attorney General Doug Chin announced that the Department of the Attorney General has charged Calvin Kuahiwinui, Jarvis Pilago II, Robert Caspino, Travis Baqui, and Troy Pacheco with failure to comply with covered offender registration requirements. The rules impose permanent quarantine restrictions on the intrastate movement on ʻōhiʻa and other material that may spread Rapid ʻŌhiʻa Death, also known as ʻŌhiʻa Wilt.
