On Tuesday, Oct. 1, Belia Paul will be the speaker at the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset’s meeting, the club announced. Paul will share information about A Honu Space – The Path to Peace: Organizing, Caring and Planning for Seniors.
List: Maui lane closures through Sept. 27
The state Department of Transportation will be conducting road work this week that will result in lane closures at various locations. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice. All projects are weather permitting.

UH: Innovative mele, lineage at heart of Hawaiian language play
The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Department of Theatre and Dance and Kennedy Theatre will premiere “Puana” this fall, a hana keaka (Hawaiian Theatre) production that delves into the spiritual connections between Kānaka Maoli (Native Hawaiians) and their kūpuna (ancestors) through the power of song. Performed primarily in ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian language), the play also commemorates the 10th anniversary of UH Mānoa’s Hawaiian Theatre program.
18 new corrections officers graduate from basic recruit training
The Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation welcomed a new class of 18 adult corrections officers during a graduation ceremony on Friday. The new corrections officers completed training and will begin their careers in facilities across the state, including three at the Maui Community Correctional Center in Wailuku.

Architecture Branch Chief selected as new State Historic Preservation Administrator

Credit Unions of Maui and Lānaʻi donate $300,000 to Ka Laʻi Ola housing
The Credit Unions of Maui and Lānaʻi recently dispersed $300,000 to the Homeaid Ka Laʻi Ola housing development. Ka La’i Ola is being built for residents impacted by the August 2023 wildfire that destroyed Lahaina town.

The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation notifies highway users of potential traffic delays as modular homes for wildfire survivors are transported from Kahului to the Ka Laʻi Ola housing site in Lahaina, beginning Friday night, Sept. 20 through Tuesday night, Sept. 24.
