Haiku, Maui – September 28th, 2024 – Malama Hamakua Maui invites the community to join us this Saturday, September 28th, from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM for a special "Kokua Saturday" planting event. The event will take place at the Hamakualoa Open Space Preserve, located off of Hahana Road. For those unfamiliar with the area, we will be meeting at the Haiku Community Center at 8:35 AM to sign waivers and caravan to the site.
Volunteers of all ages are welcome! Please come prepared for planting, rain and or sun, and feel free to bring your own tools if you have them. Tools and gloves will be provided, along with a water refill station and a light lunch donated by Flatbread Paia. Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors—WSL One Ocean, Nuestro Futuro Foundation, the County of Maui, and Kaulunani Urban & Community Forestry Program—our goal is to plant 600 native plants on both this Saturday and the next event on Saturday, October 26th.
This community-driven event is a part of Malama Hamakua Maui’s ongoing efforts to restore the Hamakualoa Open Space Preserve to its native forest state. Your participation helps to preserve and protect this precious land for future generations.
