The construction of Hale Pili has been a journey of connection and continuity—uniting kānaka and ʻāina, tradition and innovation, past and future. This hale stands as a testament to the unbroken relationship between the genealogical families and kupa ʻāina of Mākena and this place, carrying forward living, ancestral practices. After months of dedicated work led by Kuhikuhi Puʻuone Francis Palani Sinenci and supported by our Mākena ʻŌiwi Resources and Stewardship Team, we transition its care from the malu (care, protection) of the builder to the malu of its stewards.
