Join us for a special evening of music with Mailani.
Located in the Lower Valley Performance Area
Mailani was born and raised in Kailua Oahu. Music has been a part of her life having grown up in a musical family. Both of her parents are singers and the family practiced what we know called tradition, Kani Ka Pila. Mailani started her professional career early on being a backup singer for her cousin’s reggae group Soulfree. She then joined forces with a dear friend from Maryknoll School’s, JLK Melket, where they went on to write songs about lost love. The duo went on to win awards for group of the year and most promising group of the year in 2002. Their music encompassed the acoustic sounds of island contemporary of the early 2000s.
In 2009, Mailani revamped her music career focusing her artistry on her Hawaiian identity writing and recording Hawaiian music. She was able to garner more Nahaku Hanohano awards throughout her releases of her self-entitled debut solo album, “Mailani” , “Alo i Ke Alo” , “Pali Ke Kua”, & “Pacific Gem”.
After her last release of “HAWAIINUIKUAULI” single of 2020, Mailani is currently in the studio writing, performing weekly to keep her voice warm, and sharing Hawaiian culture, music, and Hawaiian stories wherever she goes.
Maui is a beloved place for my Mailani as her lineage stems from Kaʻōao, Poʻohina, & the infamous Ke Ali’i PI’ILANI.
