Jazz Maui and the Maui Ku’ia Estate Chocolate Factory present Pau Hana Fridays every Friday from 3-5pm in the Chocolate Pavilion, 78 Ulupono Street, Lahaina. Pau Hana (“work is over”) is traditionally a time to relax, socialize with friends and enjoy the end of the day or kick off the weekend. The Jazz Maui Paul Hana Friday Series celebrates this custom by presenting live music featuring the distinctive sounds of the South Seas such as slack key, steel guitar and ukulele. Enjoy the tropical ambience in the upstairs open-air pavilion and refreshing beverages and pupu for purchase. Attendees must be 21 or older with a valid photo ID. Admission is free.
Anthony Pfluke is spotlighted on Friday, May 24. A lifelong resident of Maui and Na Hoku Hanohano finalist, he writes and performs Hawaiian, contemporary, and reggae-influenced music on the ‘ukulele and 12 & 6 string Kīho‘alu (slack key guitar). Anthony has entertained across the islands of Hawai‘i, the west coast, and Japan, playing with some of Hawai‘i’s most iconic musicians. Currently continuing his education in Hawaiian Studies at UH Hilo, Anthony’s latest single, "Lahaina Strong", is dedicated to those affected by the Lahaina fire.
Benny Uyetake is featured on Friday, May 31. Born and raised on the island of Maui, Benny studied music at the Seattle University Cornish School of the Arts and the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He plays diverse styles of music including Hawaiian, jazz, blues, and contemporary on the ukulele and has been performing in the Lahaina and Ka’anpali areas for more than 40 years.
