A Chamber Music Concert featuring music of Bach, Barber, Mozart & Shostakovich
What does music spanning four centuries have in common? Beauty, craft, and the power of human expression. Under the direction of maestro James Durham the Maui Pops Chamber Players bring together four towering figures of Western music — from the Baroque counterpoint of Johann Sebastian Bach to the biting wit of Dmitri Shostakovich — in an afternoon that traces the full arc of the chamber tradition, performed in the historic and acoustically splendid setting of Saint Anthony Church in Wailuku. We are honored to feature the virtuosic Mars Gelfo as the soloist for Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 1 in D Major K. 412. Widely regarded as a masterpiece of the repertoire, this work highlights the horn’s lyrical capacity and technical agility. Gelfo, celebrated for his warm tone and commanding presence, is the ideal guide through this beloved work.
