Public Unveiling: Weaving Story into Movement

Saturday, April 4, 2026 (10 am) | FREE La'akea Village (639 Baldwin Ave, Paia, HI 96779)

Join us for the public unveiling of a contemporary dance commission by choreographer Karli Jo List. Centered on a Hui Moʻolelo recording featuring Hawaiian scholar Pūlama Collier and her son, Kiaʻi Collier, this project explores themes of guardianship, "cherishing," and the deep-rooted responsibility of land stewardship.

Guided by place-based narrative, public activities and community consultations, this commission embodies public art as a shared practice. As Pūlama shares, “Once you hear the story, then it becomes your story too.” We invite the community to join us in celebrating this triangulation of movement, landscape, and ancestral narrative.
