Maui Managing Director Sandy Baz Credentialed by ICMA

Sandy Baz, Managing Director of the County of Maui, recently received the Credentialed Manager designation from ICMA, the International City/County Management Association.

Baz is Hawaiʻi’s only credentialed manager. He now joins more than 1,300 local government management professionals credentialed through the ICMA program.

“Congratulations to Sandy on this well-deserved honor,” said Mayor Michael Victorino in a press release announcement. “ICMA is a highly respected organization and it’s a true honor for the County of Maui’s Managing Director to receive this distinction.”

To merit a ICMA credential, a member must have significant experience as a senior management executive in local government; have earned a degree, preferably in public administration or a related field; and demonstrated a commitment to high standards of integrity and to lifelong learning and professional development.

Sandy Baz is qualified by nearly 12 years of executive experience in local government. Prior to his 2019 appointment as Managing Director of the County of Maui, he served as the County’s Budget Director.

Born and raised on Maui, Baz graduated from St. Anthony High School and earned his Master’s Degree in Business Administration in Management and Strategy from Western Governors University. 

He formerly served as Chief Executive Officer of Maui Economic Opportunity, Inc. and has more than two decades of volunteer service to various nonprofit boards and community organizations in Maui County.
