Settlement reached in protection of imperiled seabirds

A three-year agreement has been reached in the protection of endangered and threatened Hawaiian seabirds in Maui County. The Conservation Council for Hawai‘i and American Bird Conservancy represented by Earthjustice reports it reached the settlement with Hawaiian Electric on Oct. 30, 2024.

Save the Seabirds celebrates ʻUaʻu Night tonight at Haleakalā

The public is invited to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Endangered Species Act by attending ʻUaʻu Night, a special annual event to raise awareness for the endangered ʻuaʻu, or the Hawaiian petrel, which nests high on Haleakalā.

Hawaiian Electric announces long-term protection plan for Maui’s seabirds

Hawaiian Electric today announced it is taking steps to prepare a long-term Habitat Conservation Plan in collaboration with the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the Hawai‘i Department of Land and Natural Resources.

ʻUaʻu Night at Haleakalā National Park, May 21

Haleakalā National Park host an ʻUaʻu Night this Saturday, May 21 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. outside of the Haleakalā Visitor Center at 9,740 feet.
