The first of two race weekends at the 25th anniversary Molokaʻi 2 Oʻahu Paddleboard World Championships (M20) kicks off with the standup (SUP) and wing foil races on Sunday, July 21.

A new Guinness World Record has been documented for Australia surfer Laura Enever for her ride at Outer Reef, the big-wave break on the North Shore of Oʻahu, on Jan. 22, 2023. The World Surf League measured and verified her wave to be 43.6 feet, breaking the world record for the biggest wave ever paddled into by a woman. 

The World Surf League 2023/2024 Big Wave season is officially open. This Big Wave season will feature events at two iconic locations: the TUDOR Jaws Big Wave Challenge at Peʻahi on Maui in the Hawaiian Islands; and the TUDOR Nazaré Big Wave Challenge in Nazaré, Portugal.  The holding period to run the competition at Nazaré opens today, and Peʻahi starts on Nov. 10. Both events’ holding periods close on March 31, 2024.

Maui women earned two of the top spots in the Solo SUP Foil division. Twenty-two-year-old Annie Reickert, finished the race in 3 hours, 2 minutes for second place; and 43-year-old Andrea Moller of Maui finished about 20 minutes later for third.   The men’s solo wing foil race was won by 19-year-old Finn Spencer from Maui who crossed the Ka’iwi Channel in 1 hour and 31 minutes.  Fellow Maui athlete, 14-year-old Bobo Gallagher rounded out the podium position in third place, completing the crossing in 1 hour and 43 minutes.

Oʻahu lifeguard Luke Shepardson earned the coveted title as winner of the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational held Sunday at Waimea Bay on Oʻahu’s North Shore.

The world’s best big wave surfers are now in transit to Pe’ahi to defy nature and challenge themselves in waves forecast to be in the 35-to-50-foot range on the face.

For the 11th year in a row OluKai, brought together the world’s best paddlers for a weekend of racing and give back to Hawaiʻi at the annual Hoʻolauleʻa.

Known as the Oscars of big wave surfing, the XXL Awards acknowledge both men and women who risk their lives chasing monster waves all over the globe in search of the biggest and best rides.

Maui’s Connor Baxter and Andrea Moller retained Stand Up Paddle titles in the 7th annual OluKai held over the weekend along Maui’s North Shore. More than 350 paddlers representing 12 countries registered for the elite stand up paddle competition with Baxter and Moller taking home the gender equal prize purse of $15,000 in the Maliko Downwind Run.

Maui medics had more than 14,000 requests for ambulance response last year. They serve a tri-isle community with a total of 11 ground ambulances and one medevac helicopter.
