Paddles and wings ready: Molokaʻi 2 Oʻahu Paddleboard World Championships launch Sunday

The first of two race weekends at the 25th anniversary Molokaʻi 2 Oʻahu Paddleboard World Championships (M20) kicks off with the standup (SUP) and wing foil races on Sunday, July 21.

New world record set in Hawaiʻi for biggest wave ever paddled into by a woman

A new Guinness World Record has been documented for Australia surfer Laura Enever for her ride at Outer Reef, the big-wave break on the North Shore of Oʻahu, on Jan. 22, 2023. The World Surf League measured and verified her wave to be 43.6 feet, breaking the world record for the biggest wave ever paddled into by a woman. 

WSL Big Wave Season now open with Peʻahi event holding period starting Nov. 10

The World Surf League 2023/2024 Big Wave season is officially open. This Big Wave season will feature events at two iconic locations: the TUDOR Jaws Big Wave Challenge at Peʻahi on Maui in the Hawaiian Islands; and the TUDOR Nazaré Big Wave Challenge in Nazaré, Portugal.  The holding period to run the competition at Nazaré opens today, and Peʻahi starts on Nov. 10. Both events’ holding periods close on March 31, 2024.

Maui athletes take top honors at Molokaʻi-to-Oʻahu Paddleboard World Championships

Maui women earned two of the top spots in the Solo SUP Foil division. Twenty-two-year-old Annie Reickert, finished the race in 3 hours, 2 minutes for second place; and 43-year-old Andrea Moller of Maui finished about 20 minutes later for third.   The men’s solo wing foil race was won by 19-year-old Finn Spencer from Maui who crossed the Ka’iwi Channel in 1 hour and 31 minutes.  Fellow Maui athlete, 14-year-old Bobo Gallagher rounded out the podium position in third place, completing the crossing in 1 hour and 43 minutes.

6 Maui EMTs Promoted to Medics
