New, spread of invasive marine species sparks ‘Don’t Let It Loose’ campaign
Illegal and harmful marine aquarium species are being set loose on Hawai‘i’s reefs, according to the state departments of Agriculture and Land and Natural Resources. And, the threat of non-native species to nearshore ecosystems has led to the launch of the “Don’t Let It Loose” campaign.
UH to Upgrade Waikīkī Aquarium’s Water System to Protect Nearshore Waters
The University of Hawai‘i will upgrade the Waikiki Aquarium’s water system within the next five years to protect nearshore waters as part of an agreement with the Hawai‘i Department of Health. The Waikiki Aquarium was established in 1904 and has been an institution of the University of Hawai‘i since 1919.
