First Hawaiian settlers brought with them very important crops to make sure that upon landing they would have plants that could provide basic necessities. These items or plants that were brought are often referred to as “canoe crops.”

Maui-grown pineapples are being incorporated into student meals statewide as part of the ʻAina Pono Hawaiʻi State Harvest of the Month program in May.

The Maui Nui Botanical Gardens hosts a Native Hawaiian Plant Sale on Saturday, August 29, 2009.  Maui residents will have the opportunity to purchase Hawaiian plants to help support the ongoing conservation and educational programs at the Gardens.
