Destructive Bee Disease Detected at Hive in Kula, Maui

A beekeeper recently detected American foulbrood or AFB disease in a bee hive in Kula, Maui. AFB wiped out much of Hawaii’s honeybee population in the 1930’s.

State Encourages Maui Beekeepers to Join Registry

State officials say, only five Maui beekeepers have registered so far, out of the 81 registered beekeepers statewide. State officials will host an informational Maui meeting on the current status of honeybees in Hawai’i on Friday, March 23.
