Fifth grade student Rebecca Czar of the Carden Academy in Makawao is the Maui grand prize winner in the 24th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Peace Poetry Awards.

The annual November Lā Ho‘oulu Pae Moku / ReTree Hawaiʻi campaign to inform about the climate crisis and encourage planting activities across the state is finding increased interest in the schools this year.

Carden Academy announced the opening of a new pre-kindergarten classroom and the completion of Phase One of their ‘greening’ of the campus, which included the installation of new air conditioners in each classroom.

The proclamation, made by Mayor Arakawa, was borrowed from a successful fundraiser held at the Maui Carden Academy.
