Expansion of coffee berry borer infested area to include the islands of Lānaʻi and Kauaʻi

The request for the board’s designation of the islands of Lānaʻi and Kauaʻi as CBB-infested areas follows similar designations of Hawaiʻi Island (2010) and Oʻahu (2015). The designation goes into effect today, June 24, 2026.

Wasps could limit coffee berry borer impacts in Hawaiʻi

A tiny wasp that is virtually invisible to the naked eye is providing hope for Hawaiʻi’s coffee industry. Phymastichus coffea (P. coffea) will likely be released first in the Kaʻū area of Hawaiʻi Island, then possibly expand to Kona, the Waialua area of Oʻahu and Maui.

Reps. Case and Tokuda announce $2.5 M in USDA funds for invasive species prevention

Coffee Berry Borer Pest Confirmed on Lāna‘i

The coffee berry borer or CBB pest is confirmed in wild coffee on Lānaʻi.  The discovery was made in August 2020, and marks the first detection on the island of CBB, which agricultural officials call “one of the most devastating pest of coffee plants.”
