New laws aim to combat climate change, promote clean energy future

Governor Josh Green, M.D., signed several bills into law on Wednesday to help combat climate change and work towards the state’s zero-emission goal of 100% clean energy by 2045.

Hawaiian Electric filed its “Integrated Grid Plan: A pathway to a clean energy future” with the Public Utilities Commission, outlining steps the company will take in the coming years to ensure its system will achieve net zero carbon emissions and use 100% renewable resources by 2045.

Hawaiʻi First in Nation to Adopt 100% Renewable Portfolio Standard

House Bill 623 mandates that Hawaiʻi utilities generate 100% of their electricity from renewable sources by 2045.

Hawaiʻi Keiki Share Vision of 100% Clean Energy Future

If passed, the bill would be the first for any state in the nation to mandate 100% renewable energy. In honor of Earth Day, April 22, a group of students will visit Hawaiʻi lawmakers this week to voice their support for House Bill 623, which sets a target for Hawaiʻi to achieve 100% renewable generation within 30 years.
