7 Hikers Trapped by Rising Water, Airlifted From “Commando” Trail

Pāʻia firefighters and a Kahului rescue crew, aided by an East Maui Irrigation employee, found the group about a 90 minute hike into the trail, at an area often referred to as the “Lava Tube.” The group was safe and were awaiting daylight and stream flows to recede before exiting.

Hikers Rescued After Spending Night at Maui’s Commando Trail

Two brothers were rescued this morning after spending the night on an inaccessible ridge on a trail in East Maui. The Maui hikers, ages 17 and 27, were reported missing at around 9:30 last night (Sunday), when they failed to return home after a hike on the Commando Trail above Kailua along the Hana Highway.

9 Hikers Rescued from Flash Flood at Bamboo Forest

Nine hikers were rescued from the Bamboo Forest area of East Maui when a flash flood made stream waters impassable. The rescue took place in the Mile Post 6.5 area of the Hana Highway on a trail referred to by some as the “Commando Trail”.
