US Rep. Ed Case (D-Hawaiʻi) voted against two major spending bills in the House Appropriations Committee this week, citing cuts to federal housing, transportation and clean energy programs despite securing key funding for Hawai‘i.

The US House Committee on Appropriation on Wednesday approved the Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 budget for State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs, one of 12 bills that collectively fund the federal government. The proposed discretionary funding level is $147.5 billion, a decrease of almost $6.4 billion over the FY24 enacted level.

The US House today passed, on a bipartisan vote of 286-134, a $1.2 trillion measure to fund the government through September. The spending package was sent to the US Senate ahead of the midnight deadline and prevented a partial shutdown of the federal government.

The bill contains billions in assistance for Hawai‘i, including $49 million directed to 14 specific needs under Community Project Funding supported by US Rep. Ed Case.

Molokaʻi Community Health Center has received Community Project Funding in the amount of $1,664,000 from the recently passed $1.7 trillion federal spending bill for the expansion of dental services.

H.R. 2471, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2022 signed into law by the President on Tuesday, March 15, included his request for $300,000 to assist the City and County of Honolulu to adapt to climate change with its city-wide Tree Inventory and Management Plan.

Due in part to its geographic isolation, Hawai‘i particularly depends on the generosity of people to donate the gift of life-saving blood, and we have turned to the Blood Bank time and again to ensure a safe and reliable blood supply for all of Hawai‘i. This funding could not have come at a more critical time.”
