Kamehameha Maui girls basketball player named national finalist for Jersey Mike’s Naismith Courage Award

Kamehameha Schools Maui high school senior Kealoha Baricuatro has been named a finalist for the 2024 Jersey Mike’s Naismith High School Basketball Courage Award. Baricuatro, who tragically lost her father due to COVID-19, and lost her home during the Maui wildfires, was selected as one of 10 national finalists.

Dec. 1-7, 2022 COVID-19 update: 7 deaths, 1,371 new infections in Hawaiʻi

The Hawaiʻi State Department of Health reported 1,371 new COVID-19 cases for the week of Dec. 1-7, 2022. There were seven COVID-19 deaths this week. 

Sept. 16-21, 2022 COVID-19 update: 14 deaths, 1,132 new infections in Hawaiʻi

The Hawaiʻi State Department of Health reported 1,132 new COVID-19 cases for the week of Sept. 16-21, 2022, which is 211 less cases than the previous week. Hawai‘i’s COVID-19 deaths increased to 1,679 with 14 new deaths reported over the week.

July 21-27, 2022 COVID-19 update: 23 deaths, 4,075 new infections in Hawaiʻi

The Hawaiʻi State Department of Health reported 4,075 new COVID-19 cases for the week of July 21-27, 2022, which is 254 less cases than the previous week. This is well below the recent peak of 8,924 new infections reported during the week of May 19-25, 2022. There were 23 COVID-19 deaths this week, 10 more than last week, and the most since the state switched to weekly reporting in March. 

May 5-11, 2022 COVID-19 update: 6 deaths, 5,768 new infections in Hawaiʻi

The state Department of Health is reporting a COVID-19 count of 5,768 new cases, and six deaths over the past week, between May 5-11, 2022.

March 7, 2022 COVID-19 update: 92 new infections in Hawaiʻi

Of today’s 92 cases, there are 75 cases identified as confirmed, and 17 probable cases were added to the count.  The confirmed cases included: 41 on O‘ahu (+12 probable); 12 on Hawai‘i Island (+5 probable); nine on Maui; eight on Kaua‘i; 0 on Molokaʻi; two on Lānaʻi; and five Hawai‘i resident diagnosed while out of state.

March 6, 2022 COVID-19 update: 1 death, 196 new infections in Hawaiʻi

Of today’s 196 cases, there are 160 cases identified as confirmed, and 36 probable cases were added to the count.  The confirmed cases included: 95 on O‘ahu (+29 probable); 18 on Hawai‘i Island (-1 probable); 19 on Maui (+2 probable); 11 on Kaua‘i (+2 probable); 0 on Molokaʻi; two on Lānaʻi; and 15 Hawai‘i resident diagnosed while out of state (+4 probable).

Of today’s 234 cases, there are 159 cases identified as confirmed, and 75 probable cases were added to the count.  The confirmed cases included: 98 on O‘ahu (+41 probable); 14 on Hawai‘i Island (+16 probable); 20 on Maui (+5 probable); nine on Kaua‘i (+13 probable); 0 on Molokaʻi; 0 on Lānaʻi; and 18 Hawai‘i resident diagnosed while out of state.

Of today’s 314 cases, there are 247 cases identified as confirmed, and 67 probable cases were added to the count.  The confirmed cases included: 161 on O‘ahu (+37 probable); 14 on Hawai‘i Island (+10 probable); 29 on Maui (+13 probable); 21 on Kaua‘i (+2 probable); three on Molokaʻi; two on Lānaʻi; and 17 Hawai‘i resident diagnosed while out of state (+5 probable).

Feb. 28, 2022 COVID-19 update: 142 new infections in Hawaiʻi

The latest data represents a total of 3,837 “active” cases statewide over two weeks. This is below the delta peak of 11,500. Maui County’s seven day average of cases is now 13.5 cases per 100,000. This is below the delta peak of 57.6 per 100,000 reported on Aug. 25, and the 412.1 per 100,000 reported on Jan. 21, 2022.

Nov. 9, 2021 COVID-19 Update: 79 New Cases

There were 79 additional COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i on Tuesday. The latest data represents a total of 1,526 “active” cases statewide over two weeks. Maui County’s seven day average of cases peaked at 57.6 per 100,000 on Aug. 25, and has been on a steady decline since the beginning of September, dropping to 6.7 per 100,000 today.
