A King Kekaulike High School graduate won the Innovation Award for his creation of a device for special needs students and those with severe disabilities that enables them to grip paintbrushes.

The award was established in 2013, and continues to honor the vision and legacy of the late senator by recognizing a student team that demonstrates the most innovative use of science, technology, engineering and math.
