Expect road closures, traffic delays for Maui Marathon’s “Lahaina Town Memorial Run”

Drivers should expect traffic delays and road closures on Sunday, April 21 until approximately 1:30 p.m. for the 54th annual Maui Marathon. Significant traffic delays and stops will occur, specifically on Highway 30 between Māʻalaea and Wailuku, from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Update/Open: Traffic fatality results in closure of Honoapiʻilani Highway in Māʻalaea near Mile 7

The Honoapiʻilani Highway is now open in both directions as of 6:25 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024. The road was closed for an extended period earlier this afternoon due to a fatal motor vehicle accident in the Māʻalaea area near Mile 7.

Northbound lanes of Honoapiʻilani Highway are closed at Mile 12 in Ukumehame due to power lines hanging from poles. At 8:42 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, traffic was being contra-flowed using the south bound lanes.

Repairs to temporarily close part of South Kīhei Road from April 6-8

The county division said it will repair the bike lane and shoulder area makai of South Kīhei Road near Kūlanihākoʻi bridge to make the roadway, bike lane and shoulder area safe for residents and visitors. 

New tech now alerts Hawaiʻi drivers of stranded motorists, tow operators on roads

In an effort to protect roadside assistant providers and Hawaiʻi drivers, the AAA Hawaiʻi and HAAS Alert, a mobility safety solutions company, have rolled out new technology that sends alerts to drivers in Hawaiʻi to slow down and move over when they are approaching a stranded motorist on the side of the road.

Work underway on temporary traffic signals at intersection of Keawe and Kupuohi in Lahaina

County of Maui Department of Public Works crews began signing and striping work at the intersection of Keawe and Kupuohi streets in Lahaina on Tuesday morning, as part of a project to prepare the intersection for temporary traffic signals.

Remote roadway at Alelele Point between Kaupō and Kīpahulu will be closed Feb. 13

About a mile of remote county roadway at Alelele Point near Mile 39 in East Maui will be closed to all traffic from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024, for geotechnical exploration work, the County of Maui Department of Public Works announced today.

Traffic light hanging at intersection of Hāna Highway and Dairy Road in Kahului

A traffic signal head and pedestrian signal are hanging from a traffic pole at the intersection of Hāna Highway and Dairy Road in Kahului, according to the state Department of Transportation. The department reports that the signal is dark and police were directing traffic at the intersection as of 12:45 p.m. Crews and technicians are en route.

Motorists advised to slow down when traveling east on Kaʻahumanu at Lono Ave.

The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation advises the traveling public to slow down while traveling east on Ka‘ahumanu Avenue when approaching the Lono Avenue intersection. The pavement at the intersection was damaged by a water main break Saturday night. The road surface is uneven and rough.

Flooding of Piʻilani Hwy. in Kaupō; downed power lines on Makawao Ave.; flooding on S. Kihei Road at Ohukai; Landslide at Honokōhau

Piʻilani Highway is closed between Mile 29 and 31 in Kaupō due to flooding. A portion of Makawao Ave. is closed due to two large trees that have fallen and downed power lines block both lanes. Maui police have closed South Kīhei Road from Ohukai to Kīhei Bay Vista at 715 South Kīhei Road, due to heavy flooding. Crews are working to remove a landslide blocking the northbound lane of the Honoapiʻilani Highway at Mile 35.5 and 36 in Honokōhau.

Rains resulting flooding, flashing lights at some Maui intersections

The Piʻilani Highway in Kaupō is closed from Mile 19 to Mile 21 due to flooding. As of 8:33 a.m., Maui police have closed South Kīhei Road from North Kīhei Road to Kūlanihākoʻi Street due to flooding at multiple intersections. Motorists should avoid the area.

The Holiday Lane Closure Restriction runs from Monday, Dec. 18, through Tuesday, Jan. 2. Only closures with demonstrated need (e.g., necessary for safety or to avoid lengthy construction delays) have been approved and are on this list. There will be no lane closures on Monday, Dec. 25 in observance of Christmas Day.

Update/Open: Accident on Honoapiʻilani Highway at Kai Malina Parkway

As of 8:08 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8, 2023, the Honoapiʻilani Highway is open to the public. It was partially closed between Lower Honoapiʻilani Road and Kai Malina Parkway due to a motor vehicle accident reported in the afternoon.
