Case commends Biden’s formal recognition of Hui Panalāʻau
In his Jan. 2, 2025 Proclamation, President Biden formally recognized and extended the nation’s appreciation for the service of some 135 mainly Native Hawaiian men, many students or graduates of the then-Kamehameha Schools for Boys, who between 1935 to 1942 were sent by the US government to live and work on the remote uninhabited equatorial Pacific islands of Howland, Baker, Jarvis, Enderbury and Canton near the equator.

A 2,000-foot mural of plumeria lei is unveiled at Hawaiʻi State Capitol
A 2,000-foot mural of a plumeria lei can now be seen encircling the Hawai‘i State Capitol building on O‘ahu. The unveiling of the “He Lei Ho‘okipa” took place on Tuesday, to welcome and honor participants of the 13th Festival of Pacific Arts and Culture (FestPAC). The mural serves as a visual message of aloha, extending a warm welcome to the 27 Pacific nation delegations of FestPAC.
1,000 invasive Albizia trees harvested to build FestPAC Hale Village
The DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife helped fell more than 1,000 invasive trees, mostly Albizia, to be used in building 28 hale for the Festival Village as part of the 13th Festival of Pacific Arts & Culture (FestPAC).

The 13th Festival of Pacific Arts & Culture (FestPAC), the world’s largest celebration of indigenous Pacific Islanders convenes on O‘ahu from June 6-16, 2024. More than 2,200 delegates from 27 Pacific nations will gather for 10 days of cultural exchange, appreciation, and celebration at various venues across the island. More than 50 festival events, including the opening and closing ceremonies, Festival Village, heritage dance and contemporary music performances, heritage arts demonstrations, visual arts exhibits, and more, will be free and open to the public.
