Hawaiʻi DOH campaign encourages colon cancer screening for adults starting at age 45
The Hawai‘i Department of Health recently launched a new public service announcement campaign to encourage adults to get screened for colorectal cancer starting at age 45. Colorectal cancer, also known as colon cancer, is now the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in people younger than 50, but is highly treatable if caught in early stages.
The Importance of Colon Cancer Screening
“It’s understandable that it may be difficult to tell others you have cancer, but the journey is more difficult when you do it alone in silence,” said Stewart. “Sharing my cancer story during my journey was like a pressure relief valve. It made the load lighter for me.”
